National Hot Rod Association on recertifing Temprotex SFI 54.1 coatings:
We feel that the Tech inspectors can look at the undercoating for proper coating and if we feel they(teams) need to add additional coating, that we will refer the racer/crew to contact your company. We also considered that the product may not need to be recertified, just checked for proper coating, and if it is not meeting your requirements we can refer them to contact TPR2.
Sarah Allen
Technical Services Representative, National Hot Rod Association

NHRA teams should carry extra product with them in case tech inspector issues arise. Per NHRA requirements, there should be ~.020" of coating on all composites to insure proper fire extinguishing as well as fire barrier performance. Remember, if the carbon fiber of fiberglass weave can be seen, there is not enough coating. See the Tech inspectors sheet here.
